This jewel would have been worn at the throat, on an inch deep length of silk or velvet ribbon, or at the wrist: as heavy multi strand coral bead bracelets featuring Navette or oval shaped clasps holding sepia images were also popular at the time. This rare survivor could very simply be re-sewn onto a new ribbon, or restrung with beads and worn again. The clasp is in very good antique condition: construction is solid, with a metal backing, and there are no indications of repair or restoration, with all original parts.
There is naturally some age commensurate wear, in the form of a few scratches to the surface. It would benefit from a gentle clean. I do not typically clean items (unless excessively dirty) in order to avoid disturbing natural patina.
