A lovely c1900 Jugendstil / Art Nouveau pendant from Germany. The design is striking and as it is quite a large pendant, it makes quite the impression when you wear it. It reminds me of some Hermann Speck designs from Pforzheim so I think it is highly likely to be from Pforzheim too.

I love the fact that it comes with its top bale and original chains which suspend the pendant. The design seems to resemble butterfly wings which are opened out. The central rose quartz cabochon has been cut to resemble the shape of a butterflies body...

Wider at the top and tapered to a point below. The stone has been set in a fine mille grain setting. It is in excellent condition and all inclusions are natural. Beneath the main part of the pendant is a small teardrop shaped drop in silver, also with symmetrical lines in it....

The pendant, from the bale, measures approx 4.6cm in height and is approx 3.6cm wide. It is stamped "800" on the reverse and there also seem to be a tiny reminder of silver gilt in places so perhaps it was washed in gold originally. It measures just over 39cm (15 inches).
