This pendant features a rare pink quartz crystal. The stone measures 1.70 x 0.99 inches (43.3 x 25.2 mm) and weighs in at 62 carats. It is wrapped in 14k rose gold wire. This stone is a rare example of a pink quartz crystal. These were first discovered in Maine along with the major tourmaline deposits there--they were initially though to be crystals of rose quartz, which famously only forms as massive chunks without crystal faces.

However, later study has proved that their coloration is entirely different--rose quartz is colored by inclusions of the mineral dumortierine, which means it is always at least a little bit hazy. Pink quartz, however, is much rarer, and gets its color from phosphorous impurities within the quartz. This means that the crystals can have a richer, purer pink color without any haziness. These pink quartz crystals are only found in a few rare pegmatites around the world, including Maine, Brazil and Afghanistan. This stone is from Brazil, and shows a classic clustered crystal form, with numerous doubly-terminated pink crystals all grown together.
